Helping Give Christmas to Children of Incarcerated Parents in Our Neigborhood
Angel Tree is a program created by Prison Fellowship to connect local churches with families that have children with parents who cannot give them Christmas presents due to being incarcerated. Incarceration can strain family ties to the breaking point. By providing Christmas gifts on behalf of incarcerated parents we can extend the hope of the Gospel to families with loved ones in prison.
This year we have been given the opportunity to bless 10 families with 20 children from right here in Cheektowaga/Depew with the love of Christ.
We have a Christmas tree in the foyer covered in 20 Angel tags that contain the name, age, and gift preferences of a child in need of a present on behalf of their incarcerated parent. We need volunteers to select a tag off the tree and purchase a gift for that child totaling no more than $25. Each gift should then be wrapped with their angel tag attached to the outside.
Here is where we need your help again:
It is then our privilege to personally deliver these gifts to children right in our backyard. The incarcerated parent has personally written a note to the child on the angel tag. When delivering the gift, we should read the message (if necessary) to the child. Let them know that the gift is from their parent who couldn’t be there for Christmas, but they were able to send a gift because of the love of Jesus. We will also be gifting each child a Bible and a personal invitation to our church. This is a wonderful opportunity to develop relationships with these families!
We need help to do this! Please consider purchasing a gift and helping us deliver them! Gifts are due to church by December 15th. (That’s just a couple short weeks!) We plan to deliver the gifts to all 10 homes on Saturday December 21st.
