In the Beginning, Genesis 1–11

Location/Teachers: Smith Hall, Pastor Ian and Matt Sargeant

Category: Biblical Studies

Description: Genesis 1–11 is the story of stories, covering God’s creation of the cosmos (Gen 1), the purpose of men and women as God’s image bearers, and the near ruin of it all with the entrance of rebellion, sin, and death into the world (Gen 3). A gleam of hope comes in the prophecy of a coming savior (Gen. 3:15), but humanity rapidly declines into murder, polygamy, social breakdown, and mass violence (Gen 4–6), resulting in God’s judgment nearly wiping out all creation (Gen 6–9). God’s choice of a righteous man, Noah, to represent a new humanity is also stained by generations of sinfulness leading to the ultimate act of rebellion: the building of the city of Babel (Gen 10–11). Let’s see how Genesis 1–11 asks big questions that the rest of the Bible answers, especially as it sets up God’s calling of Abraham, and the promises of salvation eventually fulfilled in Christ.

Adult Senior Class

Senior Adult Bible Study
Part 1: The Greatest Truths of All Time. Part 2: How to Handle Life’s Interruptions

Location/Teachers: Classroom 4, Shelly Marchionda

Category: Practical Studies

Description: Part 1: GOAT is a popular acronym for people considered the most excellent in their fields, the “Greatest of All Time.” People always debate who deserves that title in various fields, but the Bible mentions several “GOATs” about which there is no debate. This study looks at several of these as presented in Scripture, beginning with the one truly Greatest of All Time, God Himself. Part 2: How to Handle Life’s Interruptions. Life does not always go as expected. Interruptions are going to happen, but how do we respond when they do? In these studies, we look at different types of interruptions with the goal of developing a Christ-centered attitude when those interruptions come our way. Join us as we study God’s Word together.
